3 Realistic New Year’s Resolutions Every Senior Should Consider Setting in 2022

When it comes to setting a New Year’s resolution, age is nothing but a number! Here are three senior-friendly resolutions to consider making for this next trip around the sun, to set yourself up for an incredible 2022.

More Fiber

From whole foods to pills and powders, there are multiple options to start incorporating additional fiber into your diet. Not only does fiber help to maintain a healthier digestive system, but it can also help lower cholesterol levels and make it easier to manage your weight. Start incorporating more fresh, fiber-filled foods at every meal or snack. Try a handful of fresh berries in the morning with breakfast. Some sliced cucumber as a snack or to pair alongside lunch. And at dinner, aim for at least a cup or two of vegetables. And if you want to give your fiber intake a bit more of a boost, try a fiber supplement here and there for an added benefit. Just be sure to follow the directions on the packaging and check in with your physician before starting a new supplement.

More Water

Water is the elixir of life. And, unfortunately, most of us don’t get nearly enough water on a daily basis. An easy New Year’s resolution is to steadily increase your water intake. Keeping a water bottle around you at all times is a simple reminder to help you stay hydrated. Aim to drink roughly 60 ounces or 7.5 to 8 glasses of water per day.

More Movement

From taking that community yoga class with your favorite friends and neighbors to stretching or going for a walk around the courtyard, there are plenty of ways to start adding in a little extra movement to your daily schedule. It doesn’t have to be excessive, just a few minutes of movement per day will help to keep your joints and muscles from feeling so stiff. So join in with a neighbor or take a little ‘me time’ to get your body moving.
