Ring in Spring With These 5 Activities for Seniors

Spring is finally here, and now is a great time to explore new ways to spend more time outdoors. Spring into one of these senior-friendly activities and celebrate the warmer weather, longer days, and new growth.

Get Outdoors

Whether you’re taking a quiet walk or dining alfresco, it’s a great time of year to get outside and enjoy! Plan a picnic and pack a snack box to enjoy solo or with loved ones. Take the scenic route to the farmers market or your favorite hiking spot, and roll your windows down for the drive. The fresh, crisp air of spring is the perfect setting to relax and take in your surroundings.

Bring the Outdoors Indoors!

Get crafty this spring with a unique activity. Use old mugs, unused shoe organizers, or even an umbrella to create an eclectic planter. Plant seasonal flowers, or make a small herb garden to spruce up your indoor space.

Save Your Favorite Flowers

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can still enjoy your favorite flowers indoors, all year-long, by pressing them. Pick flowers and other plantlife you like, or use a favorite bouquet you received as a gift, and press between the pages of a book. You can also use more advanced methods, such as purchasing or making a wooden flower press. Here’s a guide from FTD.com to get you started.

Organize Your Space

Spring cleaning doesn’t sound like the most fun, but there is something therapeutic about decluttering and organizing your space. A clean home means a clean mind, as they say, and there’s no better time for a fresh, new start than now. From decreasing stress to helping with seasonal allergies, there are several ways cleaning and organizing can make you happier this spring.

Invite Animal Friends Over

‘Tis the season for adorable baby animals to be born, birds to begin singing, and furry forest inhabitants to come out of hibernation. This year, try DIYing a bird feeder to invite new furry and feathery friends to visit. Ask a family member or friend to help you hang one or more of these feeders right outside your window, and enjoy watching birds and animals alike as they gather for a quick snack. We think you will love the view.

However you prefer to celebrate the weather, the flowers, and the vibrant atmosphere, taking advantage of the small things will help you appreciate the spring season. For more engaging activities for seniors, visit the Milestone Retirement Communities blog.
