Sneak Peek: See How Senior Living Residents Spend Their Day

If you’re discussing the option of senior living with your parents, you may notice there is hesitation on their part. It’s not always an easy decision to make when you’re leaving your home to move into a community.

What families often discover, however, is that their parents are not familiar with the advantages that today’s communities offer their senior living residents. If you can paint the picture of what a typical day might be like for them, it might help your loved ones begin to better imagine how much easier and better their lives could be.

A day in the life of senior living residents

Wake up when you’re ready

Your day begins when you choose. No one will come knocking on your door – unless it’s your friends and fellow senior living residents and you’ve made plans for the day. Assisted living makes life easier. It doesn’t take away your independence but supports you to remain in charge of your own life. When you go to bed or wake up is up to you.

Start off with a great breakfast

You’ll find a menu of choices to provide the energy you need, but everything will be nutritious and provide the fuel required. Some residents will head to the bistro or the casual café for their first meal of the day while others prefer to eat in their home or bring something back to have later.

Meet up with friends for a morning walk

Many communities offer walking trails or easy access to surrounding areas so their senior living residents can get in a morning walk and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. It’s also a great chance to catch up on everyone’s news or the time to make plans for later.

Time for a good book

Back home, you may take care of a few personal tasks, call your children to chat or decide to enjoy a glass of ice tea or coffee and cozy up with a good book or watch a movie. You love this time of day that is just for you.

Lunch in the bistro

Don’t forget to leave time for lunch where you might choose to join others or carve out some quiet time for yourself. You’ll find more casual or lighter fare – whether you’re in the mood for a salad or sandwich.

Staying healthy with exercise

You’re committed to your wellness goals and the easiest way to stay on track is to head to the fitness center on-site. No more driving to a gym or in the other direction for a yoga class. You’ll find everything you need to stay in shape and when you work out with other senior living residents, it’s much easier to remain motivated.

A stop by the salon

It feels like a luxury but one that you deserve when you arrive for your appointment to get your hair done or to indulge yourself with a manicure or pedicure. With your often busy days, it’s so nice to sit back, relax and enjoy the pampering.

Enjoy a full-course dinner

Senior living residents who live where there are chef-prepared meals look forward to sharing a delicious dinner – knowing they no longer have to plan, prepare or clean up. Letting someone else do the cooking is one of the great advantages of assisted living.

Meet your fellow senior living residents around the firepit

Is there a more perfect way to top off the day than sitting around the courtyard with the warm glow of a firepit illuminating your faces? You’ll go to bed ready for a restful sleep – and looking forward to tomorrow.
